T Bone Burnett Among The Oscar Winners
T Bone Burnett now has an Oscar. The singer-songwriter got the nod for Best Original Song "The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)," which he penned with Ryan Bingham for the film "Crazy Heart." While Burnett joined Bingham on stage to accept their award during ABC's broadcast of the event, he admitted that he wasn't feeling well so Bingham did the talking. Burnett and Bingham's track captured the Oscar over Randy Newman's "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans," which are both from the movie "The Princess and the Frog;" Maury Yeston's "Take It All" from "Nine;" and Reinhardt Wagner and Frank Thomas' "Loin de Paname" from "Paris 36." The 82nd Annual Academy Awards were presented in a ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, and aired live on ABC. The Oscar is the latest award Burnett has received for his contributions to "Crazy Heart." In January the "The Weary Kind" got the nod for Best Original Song - Motion Picture at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards, and it was named Best Song at the Broadcast Film Critics Association's 15th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. In addition, Burnett's score to the movie, which he created with his late friend Stephen Bruton, was honored by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association in December. Bruton died of cancer last May.
