Dave Grohl Moved By "Anvil"
Dave Grohl is fresh off a presenting stint at the Independent Spirit Awards over the weekend. The vocalist was asked to introduce Best Documentary winners Anvil as they performed for the audience. Grohl tells BBC's 6Music that he was proud to be asked and is a huge fan of "Anvil! The Story Of Anvil." He notes, quote, "I cried like 15 times. I was touched by that movie so profoundly as a musician." The rocker explains, quote, "I was weeping not because it's sad or depressing but because it's so inspiring. There is nothing that's going to stop these guys from playing together. They've got so much passion and dedication and as people, you couldn't meet nicer people."
Grohl adds that he can certainly identify with the members of Anvil, noting, quote, "I grew up in suburban Virginia. I'm a high school drop-out, I worked in a furniture warehouse, I played in a punk rock band. There were never any career aspirations." Grohl says that when he was starting out he played music for the love of it and didn't care about commercial viability, and much like the guys in Anvil he would leave for a tour and hope there was a job to come home to after the performances ended. The singer concludes, quote, "All musicians should see this movie, whether you like their music or not." |
