Marsalis, Connick, Jr. Attend Music Center Ceremony
Jazz greats Ellis Marsalis and Harry Connick, Jr. are continuing to show their support for the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. "The Times-Picayne" reports that Marsalis and Connick Jr. appeared with New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu at a "topping off" ceremony on Thursday for the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music. The center, which is slated for completion in 2011, will be in the city's Musicians Village. At 17-thousand-800 square feet, the Marsalis Center will house a performance hall, a community room, and offices. Its mission is to educate and develop the talents of the city's musicians.
The ceremony coincided with the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Both Marsalis and Connick Jr. have spoken out on the disaster and contributed to the rebuilding of New Orleans in the years since. |
