Bloc Party Singer Enjoying Challenges Of Working Alone
Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke is having fun working on his own. He tells Canada's QMI Agency his album "The Boxer" stemmed from experimenting in the studio. The singer explains, quote, "Going in, just by myself with an engineer, and constructing music just on the computer program, I've never done that before and that's what was exciting about the process for me. I'm a creative person, and it was about just trying something new." Okereke notes that while he was working on the album he also started writing a collection of short stories, and he hopes to release them later this year or in early 2011. He admits, quote, "I enjoy putting myself in these situations where you're forced to come up with something new. It's exciting."
Kele also says he believes the change of pace has been good for him, as he felt Bloc Party had been "on an endless conveyor belt" of forced creativity. Okereke adds that he expects the band will eventually end their hiatus, but at present he's enjoying his solo work. |
