Farm Aid Performer Jason Mraz Calls Attention To Struggling Farmer With Blog
Singer-songwriter Jason Mraz isn't taking his duties as a Farm Aid performer lightly. In a blog posted on Monday, he writes about the importance of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the concert, set to take place on October 2nd. Mraz says he'll have his ears open for, quote, "ideas on how to save my neighbor's four-hundred-acre flower farm from becoming a subdivision of tract homes." The singer points to the rising costs of farming as putting the squeeze on his neighbor's business. Mraz writes, quote, "The driving price of water, harsher immigration laws, and restriction on chemicals have made it difficult for farmers to sustain." He also boasts about his own crops. Mraz says he has harvested a 60-bin crop of reed avocados this year. The Farm Aid bill for 2010 also features Norah Jones, Kenny Chesney, Jeff Tweedy, Band of Horses, The BoDeans, Amos Lee, Robert Francis, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews. Billed as Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope For America, the show will be broadcast live on DirecTV. The concert itself takes place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
