John Lennon's Killer Denied Parole For A Sixth Time
The man who took John Lennon's life will spend more of his own behind bars. CNN reports that Mark David Chapman, the now 55-year-old who shot Lennon outside his Manhattan home in 1980, was denied parole for a sixth time on Tuesday. A three-member panel of New York state's Parole Board Commission didn't give the reason for denying parole. Chapman is being held at the maximum security Attica Correctional Facility and was interviewed by video linkup for his parole hearing. Chapman was last eligible for parole in 2008. At that time, the parole board cited "concern for the public safety and welfare" as its reason for denying his release.
Earlier this year, an attorney for Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, confirmed that his client submitted a letter to prison officials requesting that Chapman remain incarcerated. Ono has written a similar plea to authorities every two years since Chapman first became eligible for parole one decade ago. |
