"The Big Bopper," Rock N' Roll Emcee Bob Hale, Earn Honors In Iowa
The Iowa Rock n' Roll Music Association Hall of Fame saluted some of the genre's pioneers this weekend. WCFCourier.com reports late musician J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and emcee Bob Hale were among the inductees into the Hall of Fame on Sunday. "The Big Bopper's" son, J.P. Richardson, Jr. was on hand to pick up his late father's award. Richardson, Jr. -- who has portrayed "The Big Bopper" in tribute shows -- said, quote, "We have a fondness for the people in Iowa. I go back and play all over Iowa every year so to have them honor him at this time is really special to me." Hale's role in rock history includes hosting the last-ever concert from The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and Ritchie Valens before their untimely deaths in a 1959 plane crash. The ill-fated day -- February 3, 1959 -- has been dubbed "The Day the Music Died." |
