Yoko Ono "Very Pleased" Over Denial Of Parole To Lennon Killer
Yoko Ono is weighing in on the continued incarceration of the killer of her late husband John Lennon. According to HollywoodReporter.com, an attorney for the 77-year-old said Ono was "very pleased" that Mark David Chapman was denied parole for a sixth time this week. Ono had written authorities to protest Chapman's possible discharge from Attica Correctional Facility earlier this year. Hers was one of over 75 missives written against the convicted killer's release. According to "The New York Daily News," a three-person parole board told Chapman on Tuesday that he was denied because of his, quote, "premeditated senseless and selfish act of tragic consequence."
The board added Chapman's 1980 murder of Lennon in front of the late Beatle's Manhattan home made his release from prison, quote, "inappropriate at this time and incompatible with the welfare of the community." Now 55-years-old, Chapman was last eligible for parole in 2008. At that time, the parole board cited "concern for the public safety and welfare" as its reason for denying his release. |
